PresenterTools Privacy Policy
PresenterTools (the "app") is a Windows app that overlays the cursor, clicks, key presses and points of interest on the screen for screen sharing, projection and training. This policy describes how the app handles information.
Information and purposes
- Mouse position and clicks: received as they happen to show the cursor highlight, click effects, laser and magnifier.
- Keyboard input: received only while the key display is on, to show typed text and shortcuts on screen. While it is on, everything you type, including passwords, is shown on screen and visible to anyone viewing your screen. Turn it off before typing anything you do not want to show. It is always off when the app starts. The app's own shortcuts are received through Windows hotkey registration.
- Mouse and keyboard input is never saved to a file or sent anywhere.
- Screen images (magnifier): only while the magnifier is on, the area around the cursor is captured and shown enlarged. The image is used in memory for display only and is never saved or sent.
- Settings (colors, sizes, display times, shortcuts, control panel position, display language, etc.): stored on this PC in the user folder (
%LocalAppData%\PresenterTools\settings.json) and used to run the app. - Error log: when a problem occurs (and for a few events such as settings corrections), the date, time and error details are written to
%LocalAppData%\PresenterTools\error.log. The log never contains typed text or screen images.
Sharing
The app does not communicate over the internet. It never sends input, screen images, settings or logs to the developer or any third party, and it has no analytics or advertising.
Only when the user clicks "User Guide (web)" in the Settings window, the app opens the user guide on this site in the default browser. The app sends no information when doing so (the page is viewed in the browser).
What the app draws on screen is handled by whichever screen sharing, meeting or recording apps and services the user is using.
Retention and deletion
Settings and the error log can be removed by deleting the %LocalAppData%\PresenterTools\ folder (in the Microsoft Store version, Windows keeps them in a folder it manages for each app and removes them when the app is uninstalled). Settings can also be reset from the app's settings window.
